Happy New Year's Eve! One of our annual holiday traditions is to sit back and reflect on everything we did and accomplished throughout the year. It's often easy to focus on what you didn't get done, didn't do or achieve, so we find this little ritual really rewarding. 

We have a notebook and write everything down... vacations, promotions, personal wins - paying off credit cards, learning new skills, cooking more, etc. Nothing is too big or small. I encourage you to try it this year. I guarantee you did and accomplished more than you think. Talking about it and seeing it all in writing helps end the year on a high note and leaves us inspired to do even more next year. 

Because the blog is our family's little online diary, I decided to visually recap the places we've been in 2010.

... this was the main theme of our DC visit last week.

(our friend Matt was filled with stories for us).

I think it would be safe to say that our priorities on this trip were friends first and tourist sights second. But don't fret, we still managed to do and see a lot in the ridiculously hot & humid weather - hence the sweaty photos. I love spending time with our friends and getting a glimpse of their lives. Thanks for being great hosts, Pete & Stick!

In Washington DC we...

Did an awesome segway tour - with the slowest segwayers ever.

Shared burgers, pizza, fries, salad & cocktails at Matchbox.

Decided that "martinis & segways" would be a way cooler tour.

Had our photos taken by tourists fascinated by our nifty transportation.

Went to ChurchKey for beers & tots and learned that a Church Key is a bottle opener. Who knew? We didn't.

Experienced DC college nightlife at SmithPoint, the Georgetown bar.

The Bush twins and others have been know to get in trouble here.

Saw more khaki, polo shirts and preppy gear than any J.Crew store.

Realized the next hipster trend is having a hare on a leash (don't ask).
Walked through the gorgeous Georgetown campus and classrooms.

Were uber tourists & touched the point of the Washington Memorial.

Did a booze cruise down the Potomac. Well, technically a boat tour.

 We added the classy white zin and chardonnay on ice. In plastic.

Devoured a fantastic home cooked meal by Matt.

Matt taught me how to not burn down a kitchen making onion rings.

Watched an insane afternoon storm roll in and out within an hour.

Enjoyed Matt & Jenny's adorable back patio, complete with lights.

Took one look at the line at the National Archives - and walked away.

(I did kinda want to see the Declaration of Independence).
Saw thousands of Boy Scouts - it was the 100 year jamboree.

Explored the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum.

...and laughed our way through a whole lot of Matt's stories.

Miss you kids. Thanks for an awesome trip. El Sauce.

greetings from the nation's capital.

We took the train from NYC to DC this morning and are having a blast already. We kicked off the day with some lunch and cocktails before our segway tour of all DC's sights and it was hilarious and HOT - very hot and sweaty. Here's a little video and a couple photos from today (please note Danny's patriot outfit for his first day in our capital).

Matt just got home from work and we're off to drinks at Church Key - a bar with more than 60+ beers on tap (Danny may never leave) and then dinner in Jenny & Matt's adorable neighborhood.

...We're off to NYC and Washington DC!

Both D and I love NYC. Its undeniably one of the best cities in the world and we can't wait. It's a short trip but we've both been a few times (well actually Danny lived and worked in NYC the summer of 2002) so some of the pressure is off to be uber tourists (although we're still hoping to cram as much in as possible). Ahhh... we're both so excited for this trip.

On Saturday, we're taking the train from NYC to DC to visit some of our fave people, Jenny & Matt who recently moved from NYC (sadly, Wilbur's delivery was pushed back so we're not getting to meet him). It's Danny's first time to DC so Jenny's booked us a segway tour to see all the sights and Matt (who's quite the chef) is grilling for us on Sunday. It's all going to be hot and fantastic.

And, I'm very proud that I've packed a carry on! Gold star for me.

We're excited to announce that are dear friends Jenny and Matt are expecting... a French Bulldog puppy! They just adopted him from the same breeder we got Hunter and Syd from and we couldn't be more thrilled to have a new Frenchie in the family. Check out how adorable little Wilbur aka "W" is (Jenny and Matt also went to the University of Arizona)... we can't wait to see him once his bat ears pop-up. He'll make the journey from Alabama to Washington DC at the end of July to meet his new mom and dad.

Congrats! You're no longer a couple... you're a little family!
