it's cold in phoenix. like really cold. so today we focused on an overdue chore and went through our closets and drawers. with the weather in mind, we took a stack of coats, jackets, t-shirts, shoes and pants to the nearby downtown park that many less fortunate individuals call home... (makes me sad). during the closet clean-out i picked through danny's donate pile and snagged a few things for my version of project runway --- chopping over-sized men's t-shirts to hopefully end up with lazy swimsuit cover-ups and tanks for an upcoming tropical vacay.

in case you haven't already (as i'm posting this, there have already been 55 million views), spend 30 minutes this weekend watching this video. it's fascinating on many levels. the cause. the power of technology. using those tools to come together and spread a message. that society is changing. the idea that one person can make a big difference. it's incredibly well done.

why ting, what a nice "mo" you have.

have you seen a bunch of guys running around with moustaches this month? 

my husband is one of them and is looking so seventies right now. it's pretty hilarious and awesome.

(thankfully he was nice enough to oblige me and wait until after our holiday photos) 

"movember" is a totally rad movement that's "changing the face" of men's health issues by encouraging men to grow moustaches during the month of november to raise funds and awareness of men's health, specifically prostate cancer (which my dad battled & won!) and other cancers that affect men.

It's devastating to watch, hear and read about what's going on in Japan. I was fortunate enough to spend the summer of 2000 in Fukuoka, Japan and it is awful to think about such a beautiful place in its current state of ruin. You can literally watch the devastation flow over the country. 

Last night, Danny and I were looking online here to see "before and after" aerials. Check it out and use the "drag" feature - it's pretty remarkable.

walking for a cause.

Our weekend started with the Making Strides for Breast Cancer 5K walk in Tempe. 

It's a great walk, the weather was crisp and we were happy to participate for a second year.

giving back.

It feels good to give back. We try to do little things. Like using reusable bags at the grocery (yup, we do each time), participating in charity walks, saying yes to the extra $1 at the market, volunteering for non-profits, switching to CFL lightbulbs and donating old clothes and household items.

One of my favorite traditions are Hunter and Sydney's annual birthday gifts. Each year on their birthday, we make a donation in their honor to the French Bulldog Rescue Network, a national organization dedicated to rescuing, rehabilitating and re-homing Frenchies. We'll forever make these donations to celebrate our past, present and future pig's birthdays.


It's not birthday time but we recently made two donations to the FBRN - one for an adorable foster Frenchie with a toe-nibbling addiction (it only seemed fitting) and another in loving memory of Miss Syd that will forever stay on the Memorial & Tribute wall.

We encourage you to find the causes you're passionate about and support them how you can. There are lots of ways you can give back.

nite flite.

After Saturday's Tour de Fat festival we got ready for the annual Nite Flite charity event at Axis Radius. Hosted by the Scottsdale men's 20/30 organization, Nite Flite raises funds for various children's charities in the Valley.

We went with Matt & Mallary and the night was two-fold as we were also celebrating Matt's 29th... in a big way! It was a birthday night spent on the dance floor that ended with a platform speech on stage, way too many late night slices from Joe's Pizza and walking around barefoot in the streets of Old Town Scottsdale. Success.

This morning, Danny came along with me to a media event I handled for Phoenix Children's Hospital, one of my clients. In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness month, more than 100 construction workers for Phoenix Children's (they're in the midst of a major expansion) created a "human pink ribbon" to raise awareness of the cause. And, throughout the month of October the construction men and women on-site will wear pink hard hats to encourage breast cancer screening and early detection. Cool, huh?

Did you know 1 in 8 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer?

happy birthday, miss meister.

A big birthday shout out to one of my fave ladies, Miss Tiffany Goodman! Meister and I go way back and she's absolutely been the source for so many of my belly laughs and i'm-crying-because-thats-so-funny moments.

It may sound cheesy, but its true - Tiff, you're gorgeous on the inside and out and I know we'll be laughing together till we're old and gray. So for fun, I've decided to dig up some archived photos from where it all began. There are thousands more where these came from and the memories they brought back are priceless.

Hope you're spoiled rotten today, Tiff. Ting and I love ya tons and will be celebrating from a distance with a bottle of OneHope! What's OneHope?
