on the road again...

Remember a few months back when Danny bought a car in San Diego so we flew out on a Saturday morning and drove it back on Sunday (post here)? Well, we're doing the exact same thing this weekend.

Yup. Apparently we have a thing for San Diego cars (Silvia was also from SD). I've been driving D's Mini Cooper for a couple weeks so we're both excited to be back in our own cars (and I'm not gonna lie - I'm really excited for a new car!). This will be my third car ever. Pretty normal if you ask me, but insane for Danny to comprehend. The man loves to buy and sell cars.

So we're back in San Diego this weekend, escaping the heat and staying far far away from Carmageddon.

happy weekend to you.

homemade art.

With all the fun vintage toy cameras and photography apps out there, pretty much everyone feels like a mini photog these days (sorry to those pros out there, i know you're cringing!). Why not turn your family snapshots - yes, even the iPhone ones - into meaningful decor and art around your home? I think the traditional posed family portrait above the mantle is becomming a thing of the past.

Apartment Therapy recently featured ideas to display your hipstamatic prints. Neat idea. I love homes filled with familiar faces and memories. More ideas for your hipstamatic, holga, instagram, etc. prints here.

Here's another fun idea. Why not turn a fond memory into large canvas art? This just goes to show they don't have to be professional looking, but rather fun family photos. Idea first seen here.

While we're talking about wall art, in our next home I really want to do a wall of frames. I saw this particular one on my friend Ashley's design blog, Orchard11. I'll finally have a use for the old wooden frames I've picked up at vintage & antique stores over the years.

2. waking up next to my cuddly huntie & his heart.

3. conversation candy hearts sprinkled on my work desk when i got in.

4. at my office - the bouquet and card that were hand delivered by my husband.

5. casual america's taco shop lunch with my valenting in pink. ha!

6. hot pink shoes for me.

7. our dining room table. cards from our parents, love coasters + flowers in meme's milkglass.

8. danny's new valentine's day socks... hot pink flamingos. love, me.

9. pit stop at Macy's on the way to dinner. happy valentine's day to us... we finally bought the couch we've been wanting for three years. in 10-12 weeks we'll be in plush, down heaven.

wind in the fur.

It's Thursday - one of Hunter's Paw Play days. He was timid at first and spent a lot of time playing alone with toys verses the other dogs. On day two we got the first call from his worried teacher...

Teacher: "Hi. So Hunter just kinda hangs alone and barks at the air and random toys."
Us: "Oh yeah, that's totally normal."
Teacher: "Oh, okay. I've never really seen a dog do that before."

How embarrassing! Remember this video? It used to be "Hank" but now we think it's Sydney messing with him.

Despite a slow start, we're happy to report he's being much social lately. He's made new friends including a Great Dane we've nicknamed "G. Dane" and Huntie feels so cool having such a big friend in his pack.

I snapped a few photos on the way to school on Tuesday.... he loves cruising with his head out the window. I don't typically drive with my windows down, but for My Huntie - anything. The crisp morning air has been nice.

perky purple.

Have you ever noticed that the majority of women in the airport security line have freshly painted fingers and toes? Yup, it's true... especially if you're flying on a Thursday, Friday or Holiday. Check for yourself next time you're traveling.

I'm one of those girls who likes to travel freshly painted. My current nail color obsession is Essie's new Perky Purple. Danny challenged me to pick something other than pink and I ended up with this perfect indian summer color. It's kinda mixed berry during the day and a deep magenta in the dark/at night. I have my eye on the new Velvet Voyeur for the fall and winter.

{note, the polaroid kinda distorts the true color}

saturday.

Today was the perfect blend. The day started with running Syd to the vet to repair a ripped stitch (they put her in this hilarious new stocking), getting an oil change and hosting a mini "open house" at our rental to find a new tenant (which we did - hooray). From there, we did some vintage furniture shopping, escaped the heat with a manicure & pedicure and ended up spending the rest of the afternoon at our favorite neighborhood wine bar Postino for a board of bruchetta, beer for D and wine for me.

We're off to a last minute Kings of Leon concert with some friends. Wish us luck, it's outside and 109 today. Happy Saturday!

sweet surprises.

I got the sweetest surprise today. Danny called out of the blue to see if I wanted to grab lunch (we very rarely have lunch together during the workweek). We met at one of Danny's favorite spots Pane Bianco for Italian sandwiches, a freshly squeezed lemonade for me and Coca Cola from a glass bottle for him. Too hot to sit outside, we ate next door at Lux Coffee Bar which we both love. Its a very urban spot and the vibe is always great, complete with a live DJ spinning daytime tunes.

This Friday just got a whole lot better. Happy Friday to you! xo
