wanna talk about my hair?

yes? well thanks, because i'm pretty sure danny doesn't want to ever again. poor guy.

it's a pretty bad combo -- me the ultimate dweller (here) talking about hair (one of my obsessions noted here).

the decision to dye my hair brown was pretty easy for me. figured i'd try something new. give it a whirl. it's just hair. but i had a feeling that as soon as the spring temperatures started rising and coachella was lurking around the corner, i'd the itch to get back to my golden roots - and that i did.

however, the minute i sat in the chair at that first "back to blonde" appointment, the inevitable happened - i was really liking my brown hair. so annoying, but i charged forward and landed on a lighter, more highlighted brown.
and so the bleaching and toning process has continued.

as i inch closer to blonde and battle my not-so-amazing brassy undertones with Clairol Shimmer Lights purple shampoo (rave reviews), i find myself wondering if i should have given the brunette a longer run? not the original super dark brunette, but i did dig the in-between brown that had some golden highlights.

i'm totally in the middle of a weird identity crisis.

they're totally different looks and i do love them both for different reasons.
strange how i was so anxious to get back to blonde and now that i'm back, i'm identifying more with the brown.
perhaps that's how i'm feeling because that's what i've been used to now for the past five months? that and the fact that i'm still a really weird not-quite-blonde blonde?
classic case of the grass is always greener? the hair is always blonder? brunettes are better?
who knows.
what i'm trying to focus on is that it's just hair, but for a girl like me, it's never just hair.

do i dare ask... any opinions?

the long road back to blonde.

i've decided to start the tedious process and get back to my blonde roots (ehhh, you know what i mean).

i'm liking the dark hair, but after a few months i still don't quite feel like me. and i know once spring hits, i'm gonna want to be blonde again.

so let the games begin. in college, i made the mistake of going from dark to light waayyy too fast and i absolutely refuse to fry my hair off again. so this time slow and steady will win the race even though i know that'll mean some awkward hair colors during the transition. the one i'm most excited for is a really dirty blonde look. not there yet though. i'm just really glad this first round didn't result in orangey brass hair. it's "warm" brown, but not orange. i'll take it.

my upcoming salon appointment schedule is pretty aggressive. i'm gearing up for lots of time in the chair.

eek! i've gone to the dark side.

take II
 (kinda)
for those of you who remember my horribly tragic attempt at going dark in 2003, this is a lot different and much better. why? because it wasn't done in a bathtub. it's not "black widow" from a box. and it's not permanent dye. (what were we thinking???)

i've been in the mood for a change and contemplating brunette for a little while.
a week ago, danny and i were playing around with this fun online InStyle.com hairstyle app...

and then i mustered up the courage to start texting with my stylist. she told me she had a cancellation on saturday afternoon and it was mine if i wanted it. i stopped texting. the next morning i woke up to a text... "did you lose your courage little lamb?" and i booked it. come saturday night, i was a full blown brunette.

i wasn't really nervous about going dark, i was more nervous about the thought of having to get back to my blonde hair if i didn't love it because i knew it would be a long process. but, the color turned out just how i wanted. warm & rich with some lighter pieces for depth without being stripy. no freakouts. no tears. looks like it can stay a while.

it's totally different, but i'm really diggin' it. so is the ting.
time to put the blonde bobbi pins in storage.

p.s. the last time i dyed my hair black (very different), my dad walked passed me in the hallway of our home and didn't recognize me. at dinner that night, he looked at me and said, "please never do this again." sorry, dad. i hope you agree this is a lot different than last time.
